A New Year of Sewing What We Love

January 5, 2026

Happy new year! We hope your 2026 is off to a great start. We’re starting the year with a feeling of possibility—there are so many things we’d love to make and wear in the year ahead, and hopefully learn a few new sewing skills in the process! Join us today for a peek at the garment patterns and fabric pairings on our must-sew list, and get inspired for your own new year of sewing!

We love a dress that’s easy to sew and effortless to wear, and the Dew Dress really fits the bill! This is a simple sleeveless dress designed for knit fabrics with great drape, for the perfect combination of chic and comfortable. Our dream fabric pairing for the Dew Dress is gorgeous deadstock silk jersey—luxuriously smooth, with a nice stretch and a bit of shine.

After all of our button-up shirt sewing in 2025, we’re excited to explore even more shirt styles in the new year—beginning with the Regalia Blouse! This top comes together quickly and is a wonderful way to practice sewing details like lined yokes and gathers. The Regalia Blouse would be beautiful in any lightweight cotton, but we’re especially delighted by these Japanese cotton lawns—lightweight and smooth, and in the most joyful color palettes!

We love a workwear-inspired chore coat, so naturally the Den Jacket is on our must-sew list! We love that this pattern includes interesting pocket details, a lining, and two length options. We’re envisioning this jacket in one of our bright canvas fabrics, or maybe even a combination of a few of our favorites!

Pants are super-gratifying to sew—you can make them fit your body exactly the way you like! We love the Flaneur Pants pattern because it sets us up for success, every time. This pattern is great practice for installing a zipper fly, and because it has an elasticized back waistband, it’s much easier to get a great fit. The Flaneur Pants have no side seams, which makes them perfect for sewing with big, bold prints like these fun polka dots!

As we look ahead to the year in front of us, we’re feeling inspired by sewing with intention. Choosing patterns that excite us and fabrics that truly sing makes the whole process more satisfying, from the first cut to the final press. These are the projects that earn a permanent place in your closet and remind you why making your own clothes is so rewarding.

We’re also deeply committed to supporting the indie pattern movement. These small, often family-run companies pour so much care into thoughtful designs, clear instructions, and inclusive sizing, helping sewists find the fit, style, and self expression that feels most like themselves. Sewing with indie patterns connects us not only to our own creativity, but to a wider community of makers who value craftsmanship, individuality, and joy in what we wear.

Here’s to a year filled with curiosity, creativity, and garments that truly reflect who you are. Whether you’re learning a new skill, revisiting a favorite pattern, or sewing something completely outside your comfort zone, we’re so grateful to be part of your making life. We can’t wait to see what you create in the months ahead and to continue sharing fabric, patterns, and inspiration with you all year long.

Thank you and Happy Sewing!
