Color Worth Every Stitch

We started this week of quilting and patchwork inspiration with a lovely selection of printed and patterned cotton fabrics, and today we’re back with some of our favorite quilting solids. These fabrics are created especially for use in quilts—the weave is fine and consistent, the color is saturated and long-lasting, the hand is smooth and sturdy—and they have many other uses as well. If you’re a quilter you very likely have a favorite quilting solid, but we think each of these fabrics are definitely worth exploring—and they are perfect for use with our favorite indie quilt patterns!

Pure Solids

Art Gallery Fabrics’ Pure Solids feature gorgeous, rich colors and a wonderfully smooth hand. This mercerized pima cotton has a weight of 3.7 ounces per square yard, an exceptional thread count of 205 threads per square inch, and a very fine weave. AGF has developed a unique dip-dye technique to create incredibly brilliant colors. These quilting solids will make heirloom-worthy quilts with patterns like Daisy Chain Patterns’ Granny Core and Superbloom, and they will be equally lovely for garments, bags, and home dec projects.

Century Solids

Andover’s Century Solids are woven from combed cotton, creating a lightweight quilting fabric with a soft, smooth hand and a thread count of 60 x 60. Century Solids have a tight weave and a crisp drape that is ideal for quilting as well as for garments and home dec projects. Bella Solids

Moda’s Bella Solids are the heaviest of today’s quilting cottons at 4.35 ounces per square inch. They have a thread count of 60 x 60 and a slightly more open weave, giving these fabrics a more substantial feel. Bella Solids are made from USA-grown cotton and are perfect for quilts, garments, home dec, and more.
