Denim is one of our favorite fabrics for year-round wear—it’s sturdy and strong, and has a classic look that goes great with all of our favorite shirts and sweaters. Our denim collection includes classic fabrics we restock season after season, as well as designer deadstock denim yardage in limited supply. When it comes to denim, there’s so much to choose from—there’s truly something for everyone! Today we’re sharing a few denims from our collection along with our favorite pattern pairings.

Fabric treasures await in our collection of designer deadstock denim! Our collection of deadstock is always changing, so it’s worth bookmarking and browsing frequently! What’s available now? We have a classic blue denim that’s perfect for a Stevie Jean Jacket. We have Japanese selvedge denim, a high-quality, hard-wearing denim that is woven on smaller (often historic) looms for a narrow width and a special woven edge—a great match for a lined Beachcomber Jacket. Cotton bull denim is a workhorse of the denim collection, and we’ve got a natural color in stock that would make an amazing Fowler Barn Coat.

We always say that sewing is a superpower—what better way to make use of your skills than by sewing a pair of custom-fit jeans? We have a nice selection of non-stretch denim in stock, including two cotton/polyester denims (extra strong and warm for fall and winter!) with a jacquard-woven design of bows and hearts—super cute! For non-stretch denims, choose patterns like the Magic Pants, The Quinn Trousers, and the Rika Pants.

Cotton/spandex denim has a sturdy twill weave and just enough stretch to give you a fabulous fit. Many of these denims come to us as designer deadstock, so in addition to classic black and blue, our collection can feature novelty colors, washes, and weaves when we can source them! Patterns like the Ames Jeans and the Isle Jeans are designed for stretch denim, and it can add a little extra stretch and comfort to garments like the Ramona Skirt.

Sewing with denim is a dream when you use the right notions—check out our Getting Started with Denim basic notions kit or create your own! Our best advice: use Gutermann Sew-All Thread with Jeans/Denim Needles for sewing seams, and if you’d like to add topstitching to your project, pick up some Topstitch Needles and our favorite Gutermann Mara 70 Topstitching Thread (helpful hint: topstitching thread should be used as a top thread only; always use regular thread in your bobbin for smooth sewing).
