We’ve got a brand new batch of retro stretch cottons in stock, and they won’t last long! Inspired by the mod floral and geometric prints of the 60s and 70s, these designer deadstock fabrics from the present day are bold, bright, easy to sew, and a dream to wear—all the makings of a special summertime look! We’re taking inspiration from fashion icons of the era and have lots of ideas for bringing these beautiful, colorful textiles into your wardrobe!
Barkcloth is a midweight woven fabric with a unique, bark-like texture that was popular for upholstery and home dec in the 1950s and 60s. Today’s barkcloth is made of cotton with a touch of spandex for a subtle stretch and a great fit. Bold, printed barkcloth will transform a simple shift dress pattern into something really special—it’s a perfect match for dresses like the Cielo Dress, the Cat’s Cradle Dress, and Dress No. 1.

There are so many ways to wear barkcloth! We love the Peaks and Valleys Pants pattern—it’s designed especially for stretch wovens and has a super-wearable, comfortable wide-leg silhouette. The Pogonip Pullover is fun in barkcloth—we’ll wear it as a long-sleeve shirt or as a light layering piece, perfect for all seasons. And if you’ve made a few garments and find that your wardrobe still needs more midcentury-inspired prints, we highly suggest choosing your favorite fabric and sewing a cotton/spandex Lab Coat!

Designer deadstock has been a big part of Stonemountain & Daughter since the late 60s, and we have seen interest and excitement grow significantly over the past few years as sewists seek out more sustainable fabric sources.Through our decades-long connections in the garment industry in NYC, Los Angeles, and across Europe, we’ve been able to bring in beautiful, unique,high-quality fabrics to share with our community of sewists near and far.
