Working at Stonemountain & Daughter, we see a lot of amazing fabrics and notions come into the shop every week, and it’s impossible to resist picking favorites! Our team always has great suggestions for new & notable fabrics and notions, and today we’re sharing some of our favorites (along with project inspiration) with you!
Ashlee’s favorite

Ashlee picked out this pretty peach Designer Deadstock Cotton Sateen. We love this fabric’s delicate floral jacquard weave—it’s a great way to bring a touch of Regency Era design elements into your present-day look. This fabric would make a sweet summertime Florence, and is a perfect pairing with the Atelier Brunette Wink buttons in Chestnut
Diana’s favorite

Diana’s favorite pattern, the Estuary Skirt, is a great garment for summertime. Depending on your fabric selection, it can be a fantastic fit for all seasons! Choosing a fabric like the Luna Tencel/Linen Stripe will give you a fabric with the strength and breathability of linen, plus the cool drape of tencel. Diana’s favorite River Shell Buttons are the perfect finishing touch!
Edgar’s favorite

Lady McElroy creates amazingly unique fabric patterns, and as soon as this incredible Beauty and the Bee linen/viscose arrived, Edgar had to have it! This fabric has a lovely drape and would make a gorgeous statement Agnesset. Too many bees? This fabric also looks fantastic when paired with a solid like our Sandwashed Viscose Crepe.
Linda’s favorites

While you may be familiar with iron-on patches (available in denim and twill) for repairing jeans and jackets, Linda suggests using Presto Woven Cotton Interfacing to patch light and medium-weight fabrics like shirting, voile, and lawn. Presto is easy to cut to size and iron on, making mending a breeze. Whether you mend heavy or light fabric, Linda recommends stitching around the edge of an ironed patch to secure it.
Gillian’s favorite

Gillian’s favorite fabric, Peas and Thank You, is adorable and made of 100% organic cotton. This cotton knit is the perfect weight for tops like LaurentBeatrice, and Ben. To create a casual summer look, we’ll make a pair of shorts-length Albors Trousers in Big Sur Cotton Canvas.

Our staff is made up of skilled sewists, and we’re always excited to see what they have been working on—check out this linen Miller waistcoat Hulda made! Hulda used a washed linen from her stash (for a similar fabric, try our Solid Washed Linen) and lined it with a striped linen for a pop of pattern. This is a great weekend sewing project, and a fantastic way to showcase some of your favorite buttons!
