We have a great collection of cotton twills in stock now, and the timing couldn’t be better. Cotton twill is crisp, cool, and breathable—perfect for warm weather! But how to know which twill is right for you? Today we’re taking the mystery out of each of these substrates and sharing great pattern matches for each one—zoom in to each of the photos for a closer look!

Twill is a stable, durable woven fabric with a smooth feel and a unique diagonal weave pattern. Our collection of cotton twills includes several weights, making it quite versatile—it’s perfect for everyday garments for children and adults, and it can be a great choice for home decor projects, too. We think you’ll love sewing with cotton twill for spring, summer, and beyond!

Ventana Twill is the heaviest of the three twills with the most defined weave. We carry Ventana Twill in over a dozen colors (including brights, neutrals, and more!), so it’s a reliable, durable fabric for wardrobe basics (think pants, skirts, jackets, and jumpsuits) as well as for bags and home decor projects. We love this fabric for jackets like Juno and The September, and for bottoms like the Wardrobe By Me Cargo Shorts, The Eve Trousers, and the Reed Skirt.

Kobe Twill is a super versatile and wearable light-midweight cotton twill with a a smooth hand, a slight sheen, and a soft drape. We love that this fabric is lightweight and opaque, which makes it ideal for so many great garments! You’ll love Kobe Twill for dresses like Emery and the Assembly Line Shirtdress, for structured tops like Lola and the Uniform Tunic, and for lightweight pants like Luna.

Fineline Twill is the lightest of our cotton twills. It’s a great fabric—incredibly lightweight and opaque with a smooth hand and a lovely sheen. It’s a fantastic option for button-up shirts like Vernon and Archer, and for dresses like Ashling,The Etta, and Skye. We currently carry 19 colors of Fineline Twill including several timeless neutrals, so fitting them into your everyday wardrobe will be a snap!

We have one more terrific twill to share! Sovereign Stretch Twill   comes to us from Lady McElroy. Sovereign is a medium-weight cotton/ tencel/ polyester/ spandex blend with 25% stretch along the crossgrain—it’s a great choice for patterns that call for a stretch woven fabric (think Sasha Trousers and Peaks and Valleys Pants), and also for woven garments where just a little bit of stretch will make them even more comfortable to wear (looking at the Erin Dungarees, The Thelma, and Bianca!).

The Hokkoh linen poppies are our best-selling fabric of all time, and we love this year’s Fresh Poppies  re-release just as much as the original! The classic poppy design has been refined and a few new colorways have been added for the new edition. We think the freshening-up of this iconic poppy design means even more opportunities to bring these beautiful blooms into your wardrobe!

So, what’s new? This time around, the linen fabric is the same amazing quality and a bit lighter in weight—we consider it a handkerchief linen, so it’s going to be absolutely gorgeous for floaty spring and summertime dresses, tops (to match your new twill garments, perhaps?), and much more. Have you made something out of our Fresh Poppies that you really love? Tag us #stonemountainfabric on Instagram, we’d love to see it!

We absolutely love Stonemountain customer Annie’s  amazing poppy dress! Annie used the orange/natural poppies  with the Meryll Dress pattern from Fibre Mood—what a perfect match! The Meryll pattern features puffed sleeves and godets, design details that add dimension and volume to a dress made with a lightweight linen like this one. Such a great look for springtime; thank you, Annie!
