When I opened Stonemountain with my dad over 44 years ago, we had a dream. Not just to sell fabric and make a living, but to build a place where creativity, community, and connection could thrive. A space where people could come for inspiration, support, and that spark of joy you feel when you find the fabric that makes your heart skip. This has been my life’s work as a fourth-generation fabric merchant in California — to carry on our lineage and bring fabric from the old world into the new age.

From the very beginning, we embraced both technology and tradition to help us grow. We believed then, as we do now, in fabric as a path to self-expression and healing. So many of us can’t find clothes that fit or represent who we truly are, and sewing becomes a source of empowerment, creativity, and joy.

This year brought one of the greatest losses of my life. Losing my father and business partner this summer was deeply painful. I feel him with me every day. His spirit lives on in our store and in every relationship we nurture and care for.

As many of you know, Joann stores are closing across the country, and more people are rediscovering the beauty of independent fabric shops. I’m proud and grateful that we’re still here, growing and evolving with this next chapter of our industry. From our home in Berkeley to sewing rooms across the country, we’re honored to be part of your journey.

Behind the scenes, I’m supported by an extraordinary team of six devoted managers and twenty-four passionate sales associates who bring heart and expertise to everything we do. Their care shows in every interaction, every newsletter, and every carefully cut yard of fabric that finds its way to your sewing space or stash.

And then there are our vendors. Some of these relationships — often between families — go back more than 50 years. They are the quiet heartbeat of this business. Even as global prices rise and shipping becomes more complicated, we’ve leaned into these partnerships to keep our shelves full, our prices fair, and our offerings inspiring. We’ve reopened sourcing channels, discovered new ones, and found creative ways to keep bringing you the kind of fabric that sparks ideas and invites you to create.

This Friday and Saturday, November 28 and 29, we’re offering 20 percent off all full-priced fabric, notions, and patterns, both online and in-store (only one coupon per order). It’s our first storewide sale in many months. We’ve held back on big discounts this year in order to stay steady, support our team, and continue sourcing the very best fabrics. But this weekend feels like the right moment to say thank you in a big way.

The color and energy of Anna Maria’s quilting cottons have delighted us for years, and we’re thrilled to find that magic in this new batch of yarn-dyed fabrics. Our collection includes a midweight cotton woven stripe that’s perfect for a jacket like The September or a pair of Barrel-Leg Trousers, and three cotton jacquard triple-gauze fabrics with a large-scale pattern that will make a wonderful Juno Jacket or Big Shirt Dress.
