Boiled wool is a thick, cozy wool coating. The fibers are crimped as the fabric is boiled, resulting in pockets of air that give boiled wool the ability to insulate warmth incredibly well. During the boiling process, the fabric is shrunk considerably, which changes its density and makes it extremely durable. This felted quality also means that boiled wool does not fray and is perfect for unhemmed or unlined garments. All this adds up to an amazing fabric that makes beautiful jackets, coats, and other garments.
Wondering what “deadstock” means? Deadstock fabrics are left over from garment factories and textile mills. Instead of ending up in a landfill, this fabric comes to us! It can be a more sustainable option than newly manufactured fabrics and it’s a great way to get interesting garment fabrics (sometimes even designer pieces!).
