The Slabtown Pattern

The Slabtown is a stylish, heavy-duty rolltop backpack, built for adventurous makers. This project breaks all the rules of traditional home sewing. It’s a bag that looks like it shouldn’t be possible to make on a home sewing machine, but it is. This large-format paper pattern and easy-to-follow instruction booklet will be your trusty guide on every step of your Slabtown-making journey.

Mid-heavy canvas, waxed canvas, or denim

• Main Fabric: 3/4 yard

• Accent Fabric: 1/2 yard

• Lining Fabric: 3/4 yard

LEATHER

Total needed (pattern includes individual piece measurements)

• 40″ x 1 1/8″ Leather Strips (7–10 oz)

• 90″ x 3/4″ Leather Strips (7–10 oz)

• 6″ x 3″ Leather Piece (7–10 oz)

• 5″ x 2″ Leather Scrap (5–7 oz)

HARDWARE + NOTIONS

• (2) 12″ Zippers with large hole in slider

• (24) Med. 3/8″ Tubular Rivets

• (2) Small 1/4″ Tubular Rivets

• (2) 3/4″ Center Bar Buckles

• (3) Line 24 Snaps

• 1″ Twill Tape (1 1/2 yards)
