Cool, crisp, and lightweight, shirtings feature a fine, tight weave of cotton, linen, or a blend of fibers. Because they are lightweight and often opaque, shirtings are popular fabric choices for spring and summer wear—they’ll keep you feeling cool and looking great! Today’s group of shirtings has been hand-selected from our collection of deadstock fabrics, and features beautiful, high-quality shirting-weight fabrics from ready-to-wear designers.
Often called sample cuts or designer ends, deadstock fabric is left over from textile mills and/or the fashion industry. In the past few months, we have stocked some incredible, high-quality, designer pieces, to the delight of our community of sewists. We’re excited about these fabrics, too, and we hope to bring you even more throughout the year! Visit our designer deadstock primer to learn more about this fantastic fabric source.

Linen is known for its gorgeous drape, so these linen and linen/viscose shirtings are going to make beautiful garments with lots of motion. We’ve got these linen brights in mind for dreamy, drapey summer garments like the Sauvie Sundress, the Zadie Jumpsuit, and the Luna Pants.

We’re all abuzz about this next group’s honeybee-inspired palette! These crisp, linear prints are a perfect match for warm-weather dresses like the Verano Tank, the Hinterland Dress, and The Assembly Line Shirtdress.

Yarn-dyed chambray is a popular shirting fabric, and we’re excited to add it to our spring wardrobe! Shown here with a similar linen and some coordinating plaids, these fabrics will be perfect for dresses like the Hughes Dress, or for separates like The Ellsworth and the Evelyn Skirt.

You’ll want to scoop up every single one of these linen/cotton shirtings for your spring wardrobe! These fabrics are, quite honestly, incredible: super lightweight and amazingly soft, and we predict that they’ll get even softer after washing. Our favorite button-up shirt patterns include KalleFairfieldVernon, and Archer, but shirting is a perfect fabric for any pattern that calls for a lightweight woven. P.S. Stay tuned for more great spring shirting ideas next week!

Part of the fun of sewing your own clothes is selecting the shapes and silhouettes that will become staples of your wardrobe. While you might be a fan of a tried-and-true, classic button-up shirt pattern, here are some variations on the theme that are well on their way to becoming future classics!
