The Fabrics You’ll Live In

Here at Stonemountain & Daughter, we can’t get enough of our better basics! Specially selected by our buyers for quality, durability, and value, these fabrics are easy to sew, comfortable to wear, and a breeze to care for—perfect for those garments that are in constant wardrobe rotation, week after week. We love making these fabrics a part of our own wardrobes, and we’d like to introduce you to some of our favorite better basics, just in time for fall!

cotton/linen

Cotton/linen is one of our go-to fabrics—with the texture of linen and the stability of cotton, it’s easy to sew (even for beginners!) and care for, and continues to look amazing, season after season. Canyon Cotton/Linen is a lightweight, yarn dyed gingham with a light crinkle texture—it’s perfect for garments like the Balka Dress, the Regalia Blouse, and the comfiest button-up shirts (more on that topic next week!). Cortina Linen/Cotton is a medium-weight fabric with a soft hand and a light drape. It’s so versatile—in addition to making a great pair of Sepia Pants, it’s a wonderful choice for clothing, quilting, home dec projects, and more!

Tyler Twill

Tyler Cotton/Tencel Twill is one of our favorite recent additions to our collection of apparel fabrics. With the cool drape of tencel, the stability of cotton, and a handsome twill weave, this is the fabric on everyone’s must-sew list! Tyler Twill is the perfect match for fall garments like the Pietra Pants, the Cortland Trench, and the Bernadette Skirt, and we think it would make amazing jumpsuits and dresses, too.

japanese imports

By now you’ve probably noticed our collection of Japanese imports, which features lots of cotton and lots of fun prints. But the hidden gem of this collection is our selection of Japanese solids—in weights from sheeting to canvas, these fabrics are available in a variety of textures and a rainbow of colors. Choose a washed cotton/linen for a lightweight and versatile version of The Sanda. Cotton dobby is woven to create textured patterns—it’s a great way to make everyday garments like the Thea Trousers and the Brumby Skirt extra special!
