Timeless Patterns, One-of-a-Kind Fabrics

We carry patterns from dozens of independent pattern designers at the shop—that’s a lot of designers! From time to time we like to share a group of patterns from a specific designer so you can get a feel for their offerings. Based in Sweden, The Assembly Line creates functional, stylish garment patterns with a minimalist, Scandinavian aesthetic. Whether you use their patterns to create your own minimalist wardrobe or as a blank canvas for exploring your own personal style, you’ll love their thoughtful designs and clear instructions.

Over the past several months, The Assembly Line has updated their pattern collection, combining patterns that were once available in two separate size ranges into a single size range (XS–3XL) in one envelope—you can find those patterns here. This change not only simplifies our shop inventory, but it gives you, the sewist, even more flexibility. If you were previously in the middle of two size ranges, now there’s no worry about choosing the “correct” range. And if your size fluctuates over time, you’ll have everything you need to sew these garments at any size, and make them again and again. 

Today we’re sharing a few patterns from The Assembly Line paired with designer deadstock fabrics. Our deadstock collection includes everything from top-quality basics to unique designer pieces—so no matter your personal style, you’re sure to find incredible fabric inspiration! 

The Puff Shirt will be a fantastic addition to your wardrobe! The pattern has overlap shoulders that create an elegant boatneck, and bell sleeves with elastic at the wrist for beautiful puffed sleeves. This shirt would be gorgeous in lightweight fabrics: cotton shirting and lawn give the sleeves a light billowy shape, and silk charmeuse and crepe de chine add a pretty drape.

The Assembly Line Shirtdress is a lovely take on a classic! This version is designed with an A-line skirt and a mid-calf length, but we’re always thinking about potential pattern hacks—make yours sleeveless for summer, or cut a shorter skirt for a retro feel. It’s a perfect match for your favorite shirting—anything from stripes to plaids to our little group of deadstock cotton/nylon twills, which are about 200 GSM, super smooth, and wonderfully crisp!

Speaking of dresses, the V-Neck Dress is another one we can’t wait to sew! We’re especially drawn to the sleeveless version—styled with sneakers, it feels both sporty and put-together, perfect for a carefree summertime look. This dress is at its best with a midweight fabric that has a bit of body—think dobby, twill, linen, and more—to give it that great structure.

The Wrap Jacket is boxy and workwear-inspired, perfect for fall layering! The pattern calls for fabrics that are midweight-to-heavyweight, and we have some great options within that range. Go for a handsome, classic look with pinstriped wool suiting, or printed textured cotton for an eclectic statement piece. Heavier linen (and linen-blend) jacquards have nice body and texture, giving your jacket a more sculptural shape.

For us, one of the greatest joys of sewing is taking a well-designed pattern and making it completely your own.
