Looking for a bit of color and texture to make your springtime look shine? You can’t go wrong with yarn dyed fabrics! “Yarn dyed” refers to the process used to create fabrics like ikat, jacquard, chambray, gingham, and many others. Here’s how it’s done: spools of threads are dyed, and then the different colors of thread are woven into fabric. This technique creates beautiful, dimensional solids and patterns like plaid, diamonds, and stripes. The fabric color comes from the threads themselves, rather than from inks and dyes applied to a pre-woven length of fabric. Due to the weaving technique, these fabrics are often two-sided, adding extra design details to garments that reveal the fabric’s reverse side. We love working with these dynamic and colorful fabrics and think you will, too!
Linens are lovely, and yarn-dyed linens add even more color, pattern, and dimension to these gorgeous fabrics. Yarn-dyed checks, plaids, and stripes are some of our favorites for spring tops, dresses, and more—these linens are great choices for garments like Cielo and the Burnside Bibs.
For a lighter take on yarn dyed fabrics, cotton shirting and lightweight linen can add a breezy touch of pastel color to your springtime look. We love these finely-woven fabrics for crisp shirts and dresses. Pair our pastel stripes with patterns like the Front Pleat Shirt and the Shay Dress for a twist on classic shirting silhouettes.
Sometimes we find a batch of fabrics that are destined to be a great deal! This new group of cotton yarn dyes came to us at a fantastic price and are now part of our sale section, which you can shop in person in Berkeley and now via the website, too! These colorful cottons would be a lot of fun to mix and match in garments like the Metamorphic Dress and the Sagebrush Top, and they would also make wonderful home dec accessories like napkins and placemats!
