Modern oilcloth is a vinyl fabric with a 65% polyester 35% cotton scrim backing. Contemporary oilcloth is a direct descendant of the much older canvas cloths treated with linseed oils, hence the name oilcloth. This oilcloth is similar to it’s outdated ancestor from the 1950s but is new and improved — it does not crack, peel, or fade with normal usage. Oilcloth has a woven, durable backing and can be sewn! Can be used to make bags, table cloths, aprons, and rain jackets. Recommend a size 14 needle, monofilament thread and a Teflon pressure foot. Oilcloth does not ravel or fray but can be edged with a serger using puffy thread, bias tape or other fabrics.
Place unfolded oilcloth on a flat surface to rest outside, wrinkles, folds and odor fall out especially fast in the warm sun.
Please note the CPSIA act of 2008 may prohibit oilcloth garments such as bibs, aprons, or toys for children under age 12
