Want to create a garment with gorgeous drape? Rayons and silks are the perfect place to start! We’ve got hundreds of these fabrics in stock, and today we’re highlighting some of our favorites.

Lady McElroy is known for their unique patterned fabrics, many of which we carry in rayon and silk. We love to pair a fantastic Lady McElroy print with a stunning solid—these three fabrics are perfect for separates like the Genevieve skirt, Florence shirt, and Ogden Cami.

We love the rich colors in this next group—they would make amazing dresses! Silk crepe and rayon crepe are lightweight and sheer, perfect for patterns like HolyokeEstella, and Eve. Need a lining? Bemberg Rayon is a great choice for these sheer fabrics. Silk Noil, also called raw silk, has a unique look and texture we love—it’s ideal for garments like Shelby Dress or the Hinterland.

Our sandwashed silks from Bay Area fashion label Amour Vert are gorgeous and hand-washable, so you’ll absolutely want to add them to your everyday wardrobe! These silks are easy to wash and wear, so they’re perfect for garments like CalvinZadie, and Roscoe.

Many beginning sewists shy away from fabrics like silk and rayon because they have a reputation for being difficult to work with. Though it’s true that these fabrics can be trickier to work with than cotton, sewing with silk and rayon just takes a little more care. Use weights and a rotary cutter to cut out your pattern, rather than pins and scissors. A fresh microtex needle will help keep your stitches even. And don’t forget to stay-stitch your curves after cutting to keep them from getting misshapen!
