Woven from flax fibers, linen is durable, breathable, and dries quickly, so it’s ideal for hot days and humid weather—it’s a perfect summer fabric. But did you know that linen is also a fantastic fabric choice for autumn, winter, and spring? Whether you wear it alone or layer it up, linen is a versatile, year-round fabric you’ll love sewing with and wearing. Choosing a fabric for your next project? You really can’t go wrong with linen!

For even more fabric options, be sure to check out our linen blends (to get you started, find a few of our favorites in the photo above)! Why choose a fiber blend? Combining linen and rayon creates a strong, breathable fabric with a beautiful drape. Linen/cotton blends are durable and practical, perfect for everyday wear. Our collection of linen and linen blends will give you lots of great sewing inspiration!

We love linen in bold, bright colors! We’re eyeing this confetti print for the most happy-making dress ever—we’ll pair it with a pattern like Estella for maximum fun. Solid linens are gorgeous for separates like the Estuary Skirt and the Ogden Cami, or choose your favorite for a fantastic Wide Leg Jumpsuit.

Big prints take neutral colors to the next level! The Charlie Caftan or the Wildwood Wrap Dress are great choices for showcasing a statement print. Playing with scale can also add impact to basic wardrobe separates—we love a black and white polka dot or a crisp, stark grid for a top like FlorenceRomey, or The Edie.

These yarn-dyed linens are woven from different colors of thread, creating gorgeous, variegated tones and effects. We love the unique look of the Yellow/Black Dash Stripe, and we love the shifting, shimmering color effect of these two-tone linens! These fabrics are perfect for tops, lightweight trousers, dresses, and more—we love them for patterns like the Luna Pants, the Hughes Dress, and The Edie.

Whether you prefer florals, stripes, plaids, or even a slubbed solid, there’s something for everyone in our collection of linen and linen blends!

Linen and linen blends are ideal for garments since the fabric is so easy to care for: for best results, machine wash cold and hang to dry. To make any 100% linen fabric wrinkle less, follow these instructions from Sandra Betzina: Before washing, iron the fabric with the hottest, driest iron possible. Machine wash in hot water and tumble dry on high heat. Remove only when completely dry. This method will result in shrinkage, but small, soft folds will replace the hard creases usually associated with linen.
