Looking for a comfortable, versatile fabric that you can sew now and wear throughout the year? Be sure to browse our collection of knits! From basic t-shirts and leggings to pretty wrap dresses and comfy office workwear, our selection of  knits and jerseys features great colors, textures, and prints that you’ll love making a part of your wardrobe. New to sewing with knits? No worries: we’ve got some helpful hints for you in this newsletter.
These knits have excellent stretch and recovery, so they’re perfect for garments that really need to move with you. All of these knits are great matches for the Rowan Bodysuit and the Elysian Bodysuit—a great opportunity to mix and match, perhaps? For even more wardrobe flexibility, it’s a snap to hack either bodysuit pattern into a comfy, fitted knit shirt.
If you’d like to make a garment with a pretty, fluid drape (we love the drama of the Adrienne Blouse and the Zoey Tank and Dress ), using a lightweight rayon/spandex knit is a great way to achieve that effect! Choose a solid color for a dressier garment, or pick a cute and sporty stripe for a casual look.
One of the things we love most about sewing is being able to make a custom version of a wardrobe staple like the t-shirt. Need a little more length? A slightly deeper scoop neck? When you sew your own, anything is possible! An organic knit jersey is always a great choice for a basic tee—pair it with a pattern like the Nico Raglan or the Max Tee for a quick and satisfying sew.
No serger? Not a problem! Most sewing machines have an overlock or elastic overlock stitch that will make stitching knit fabrics a breeze. Using a rotary cutter will help you cut knit fabrics accurately. You can sew knits with your favorite all-purpose thread or try our new favorite, Mettler’s Seraflex stretch thread. To ensure successful sewing, choose sewing machine needles specially designed for knit fabrics. Now double-check your pattern’s seam allowances, test your stitching on a scrap of fabric, and you’re ready to sew!
